May 19 (Renewables Now) – Etihad Energy Services Co LLC (Etihad ESCO) this week announced the three winners in its tender for contractors for a rooftop solar project in Dubai’s mountainous Hatta region.
Alsa Solar, Al Mustajed General Contracting, and the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence will be in charge of the development, engineering, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance of photovoltaic (PV) systems installed on 640 villas in Hatta. Installation is to be completed by end-2018 and the solar systems will be connected to the grid.
Etihad ESCO’s request for proposal (RfP) in January got 26 offers from “specialised companies”, 11 were shortlisted and five competed against each other in the final stage, the company said.
The energy management services provider has been established by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). The Hatta rooftop solar initiative is the one of the first projects for Etihad Solar, a dedicated division set up to distribute solar power generation solutions in the UAE.
At the end of 2016, DEWA also disclosed plans to build a 250-MW pumped-storage hydro plant near Hatta Dam that will use off-peak solar power.
Dubai aims to boost the share of clean energy in its power to 25% by 2030 and 75% by 2050.
